Frequently asked questions

When should I buy my Travel Insurance policy?

You should buy your policy as soon as you book your trip. The moment you pay for your holiday, you face the risk of needing to cancel. Purchasing insurance early ensures you are immediately covered by the Cancellation portion of the policy.

Do I need to declare my pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, it is essential. If you do not declare all pre-existing medical conditions and you need treatment related to one of those conditions abroad, your insurer may refuse to pay your claim. You must declare all relevant conditions for yourself and anyone else on the policy.

Will my policy cover me if I get COVID-19?

Most UK travel insurance policies now offer protection for COVID-19, but coverage varies. Generally, policies cover:

  • Emergency medical treatment if you catch COVID-19 while you are away.

  • Cancellation if you test positive for COVID-19 just before you leave.

Always check the specific terms of the policy for exclusions related to local lockdowns or government advice.

What if I need emergency medical treatment abroad?

If you have a medical emergency, you should contact the insurer's 24-hour Emergency Assistance line immediately. They will manage your care, guarantee hospital payment, and arrange for your safe repatriation if necessary. You must get approval from them before incurring significant costs.

Is travel to all countries covered?

Policies are generally split into three coverage areas:

  • UK Only: Coverage for travel within the United Kingdom.

  • Europe: Includes most European countries and sometimes Mediterranean nations like Türkiye or Egypt.

  • Worldwide: Covers all other destinations.

Be specific when getting your quote, as the Worldwide option costs more.

Are extreme sports or activities covered?

Standard policies typically exclude high-risk activities like jet skiing, bungee jumping, rock climbing, or scuba diving. If you plan to engage in these, you must purchase an optional activity pack or upgrade your policy to ensure you are covered for related injury.

Does the policy cover me if the Foreign Office advises against travel?

If the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises against all travel or all but essential travel to your destination, your policy will usually become invalid. You should not travel, and your cancellation cover may apply depending on the specific reason for the FCDO advice.
